Our Materials

To us, it’s a no brainer to only use ethical materials to create jewels you can treasure forever - with the peace of mind that they are conflict-free, support environmental protection, fair labour practices and promote traceability + transparency.

ethical metal.

The gold and silver we use to handcraft our pieces are either reclaimed, local fairmined or alluvial (or a mix of all 3!)

We recycle precious metals by melting down our unused scraps and reclaimed jewellery.

We buy both recycled and alluvial gold too.

Our alluvial gold has it's own beautiful story - it’s local gold that flows through the rivers in the South Island of Aotearoa.

The gold comes from high up in the mountains untouched for centuries.
Over time, rain and stream water flows down these mountains and erodes the rock away, which washes nuggets, flakes and gold dust down into the rivers.

Alluvial operations comply with strict protocols put in place by the Department of Conservation to minimise the impact on our environment.

thoughtfully sourced gems.

It's in our name - we only work with clean carats!
Unlike the vast majority in the jewellery industry, ALL our gems are responsibly sourced and are curated for their uniqueness and quality.

We work directly with small family owned mines and artisanal gemcutters we trust — which allows us to be able to source the most unique gems.

You won’t find them anywhere else.

We like to get to know the people behind the gems.
They first have to pass our own strict vetting process, and we won’t work with suppliers whose values don’t align with ours.

We then handpick each stone individually, selecting only quality gemstones for their colour, cut, polish and shape.
Our gems are traceable because we have such a tight-knit network.

Our diamonds are supplied to us by trusted diamond suppliers in the industry who abide by the UN approved Kimberley Process.

In other words, all our diamond jewellery is made using only certified diamonds that are guaranteed conflict-free.

Read more about the Kimberley Process here – in short, it is an international scheme that regulates trade of rough diamonds. The mining procedures, working conditions, and traceability of the diamonds are scrutinized to ensure fair labour practices and transparency.

Today, the Kimberley Process is responsible for preventing 99.8% of the trade of blood diamonds.

We choose purpose over profit.

It’s no secret that it takes a lot of time and effort to do the things we do, which is undeniably expensive for us.
However choosing to operate the way we do means we also have less links in the chain - from when the gems are sourced and cut, right through to when you receive your finished jewels handcrafted by us.
This eliminates the added markup that a lot of big brands add onto the prices of their products.

It’s really important to us that we buy only from reputable suppliers that make a huge effort to ensure minimum disruption to the environment, in an industry where this way of thinking is still uncommon.

With your help, as our brand grows we plan to give back to charities and organisations whose values align with ours — putting in the mahi (work) to make positive change for our people and our planet.
